Separation of Church and State Round 2
Let's approach this next topic in three
phases because it's way to complicated to dive right in and lump
everything together all at once. First we will address the Church's
view of homosexuality and the role the Church has played in the lives
of these individuals in biblical times. Secondly we shall touch on
the issue of the separation of Church and State. Finally, I will put
it all together and share my views of one particular issue regarding
the interference of the Church by the State and some possible
implications thereof.
Homosexuality is nothing new. It occurs
back in time further than I care to imagine. There is more than one
mention of it in the Bible. In fact the Bible is where we get the
word referring to anal and oral sex, sodomy and the individuals
committing these and other perverted sexual acts, sodomites. The word
sodomy was derived from Sodom, one of the two cities God had
destroyed because he had deemed the inhabitants to have been
perverted far beyond redemption. If you don't recall the story, maybe
you should revisit or visit it if you have never done so the Book of
Genesis. To make a long story short, people were having sex in all
manners including men with men, women with women and group orgies
throughout the cities of Sodom and Gomorrah... not too terribly
different from the way things are today, only it was done more openly
like in public places and in the streets. Therefore, God caused fire
and brimstone to rain down upon the two cities of Sodom and Gomorrah,
destroying them both.
So this is what is used to define the
Church's stance on homosexuality and other perverted sexual acts.
These acts are spelled out in Leviticus. Specifically regarding
homosexual men (Which of course silently implies gay women as well.)
in Leviticus 18:22 for our purposes “Thou shalt not lie with a man
as with a woman. It is an abomination!” Even if you don't believe
in the Bible, it is the greatest piece of literature known to man and
the best ethical and moral guide in the world. It is also where most
of our laws have been derived from. Back in the days of Moses people
were stoned to death for breaking these laws. Sexual perversion is
such a strong force, I can understand how and why it perpetuates and
grows. This is exactly why people are suppose to inure themselves in
the Word of God. The Word of God protects people from these perverted
carnal desires. There is so much to homosexuality that I will not
delve too deeply into it here but will devote a post solely to it.
Suffice it to say that homosexuality is NOT OK in the eyes of God and
therefore should NEVER be accepted by the Church. Nor should the
Church be Forced to accept it, which is the main point of this
post.
But for now, let's discuss the issue of
separation of Church and State. Back when this law was implemented,
it was deemed necessary due to the Church's strength and influence in
regards to the government and it effecting the policies of such. And
there were many who disagreed with the Church's views and therefore
pushed to have this law enacted. It was probably a good thing to have
done this because ANY entity that grows to strong can become corrupt.
As they say, absolute power corrupts absolutely. This is another
issue which I will need to devote to it's own post, in fact more than
likely several posts. I have already touched on this in a previous
post. So I shall leave this alone for now and jump right to my
point.
To an extent, I agree with the
separation of Church and State. But that should also be a two way
street. The government should not be able to dictate how a legitimate
church worships, their beliefs or traditions. There is absolutely no
way on God's green earth the government should be allowed to FORCE
churches to perform GAY marriages. To do so is sacrilegious to a
fault. I don't care if gays get married at the courthouse, but don't
try to force the Church to give them a formal ceremonial wedding.
That goes against everything that's Holy. Once again refer to
Leviticus 18:22. If I were a preacher or pastor or whatever type of
church leader they would have to prosecute me before I would EVER
perform a gay marriage. This is why I elaborated on the Church's view
on homosexuality at the beginning of this post. I have already heard
one pastor/preacher declare that he would perform gay marriages. HOW
CAN HE DO SUCH A THING knowing what the Bible says regarding the gay
lifestyle? I was completely blown away when I heard him say that!
This is where pastors, preachers, ministers, churches, Christians and
anyone who believes in God and the good book need to discover a spine
and STAND UP AND BE COUNTED! This is an issue that I and quite
passionate about and will definitely be revisiting at a later date.
